Best Place To Have Ecu Reflashed?

Discussion in 'Technical' started by RocketmanBill, Feb 17, 2014.

  1. I want to know who you would trust to reFlash your ECU. I have a '03 ST4s, which I am told , has two different ECU for that year. One is good, and the other is BAD. Guess which one I have. Correct! the bad one.
I'm in the far west suburbs. I'm thinkin' Ducati Milwaukee. I've dealt with them, and they seem to be on the up-and up. Also I am thinkin' Ducati Indy. I heard they are great, plus I'm going down there for three non-motorcycle events. So, pick-up and drop off aren't a problem.
I'm NOT thinkin' MCC. Just not.
Is there anyone else you would recommend?
I'm not planning on changing and mixtures, so do you know if they need the entire bike? or could I just sent then the ECU?

That's enough questions for now. I'm sure I'll have more.

The guys at Ducati Milwaukee are definitely on the up and up. Purchased my last used bike from them and have nothing but good things to say about them.

Had a couple problems, which can be expected with a used bike, but they took care of them. The bike was repaired at no cost to me. Picked up and dropped off by Joe Meinerz. Super cool guy.
  3. Bill, Could you tell me why NOT MCC? I'm quite interested... partly because I have my own NOT opinion of this shop.
  4. The main reason is, people skills. When I spend $1000 at an establishment, the next time I walk in, I would like them to remember me and know my name. At MCC, I'm just another "Joe" that walked in the door.

This is MY opinion. I'm sure other folks have a GREAT relationship with the folks at MCC. Just not me.

  5. Spent 10k there... call me Joe. :(
  6. Hi Ya Joe!

That's too bad.... I'll bet you didn't even get a Christmas Card from them.

Good thing there are other Ducati dealers.
  7. I'm a bit late to the party, but as I understand it, you can replace your 59M with a 5AM (that you can flash yourself with $25 in cables and a copy of GuzziDiag writer) if you don't mind losing your immobilizer. Brad the Bike boy (bradblack) over on Ducati.ms seems to know all about it.

5AM's can be picked up on ebay for $50. I've got the cables and an old laptop if you want to try it out.

  8. Rob,
The Immobilizer is the first thing I want to get ride of. I gotta figure out what the heck is draining the battery.
I am up for it, but I need to know a LOT more about it before I do it.
Right now the bike runs. That is something that it hasn't done for the past two years. Sorry, but my Ducati has been a Money Pit.
There are three things I have to accomplish by reflashing the ECU. First, eliminate the Immobilizer. Second, Fix it so you can start the bike with the side stand down, and third, Get that stupid Immobilizer light to shut off. It's on ALL of the time.

Once I accomplish these things, The bike become sellable.

I take a look on Ducati.ms to see what "Brad the Bike Boy" has to say.

    Thanks for the tip.

  9. Alas, that's the nature of all sexy things.

Why wasn't the bike running for two years?

If your immobilizer light is on constantly and your bike starts, that means that your immobilizer is already disabled. There is an easy way to test it. Grab a square of tin foil, poke your key through the middle of it and wrap the remaining around the head of the key. (The entire black part needs to be covered in foil) This will prevent the RFID chip in the key from sending a signal. If your bike starts with your key like that, your immobilizer is disabled.

There's nothing that you can do about the light besides either covering it up with a piece of tape or disconnecting it inside the gauges.

If you want to disable the side stand, you simply need to disconnect the wire from the switch on the stand and jump two wires. It's pretty straightforward.

I don't see why you need a new ecu or to have it flashed.
